Only Murders in the Building scooped two awards at the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in February. The hit murder mystery comedy series starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short took home honors for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, while Short won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Oliver Putnam.

Short was unable to attend the award ceremony after contracting COVID following his appearance at SNL50. His co-star and co-creator of the show, Steve Martin, also missed the event due to a scheduling conflict. As a result, it was left to their co-star, Selena Gomez, who plays Mabel on the show, to accept the awards on their behalf.

Gomez joked in her acceptance speech “Marty and Steve aren’t here because they don’t really care. Thank you to Marty and Steve for helping to raise me. I genuinely am just so grateful. I take it home for all of us; bringing this back to New York for Season 5.”
She was joined on stage by show regulars Michael Cyril Creighton, Kumail Nanjiani, Molly Shannon and Richard Kind.

The star then took to Instagram to reflect on the cast winning, writing “After 4 seasons we got our first award as a cast!!! Steve, Marty you deserve this more than I do. You guys have shaped the character I play on our show.”
The show has been a standout at the SAG Awards, receiving multiple nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The popular murder mystery comedy series earned its first nomination in 2022 and followed it up with three more in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Gomez continued, “John Hoffman, you brilliant man. Jess Rosenthal, Dan Fogelman and every single human on our crew that ever was or is. Last night was one I will never ever forget. Thank you @hulu and @sagawards for this unreal moment that I will cherish with my only murders family!”

Gomez hand delivered the awards to her leading co-stars Martin and Short, along with Creighton and the show’s director John Robert Hoffman.
In a video clip posted on the Hulu show’s official Instagram, Hoffman is seen holding all the SAG Award statues, as they sneak up on the pair during a break from filming season 5 scenes.
“It’s a surprise, they don’t know we’re coming. Cross your fingers they don’t say anything too inappropriate.”
Gomez enters the room first announcing “And the SAG Award goes to Steve Martin and Martin Short!”
The duo are visibly surprised as they’re handed their awards and joke about how heavy they are, with Short falling to his knees. “Thank you world,” he says, before jokingly adding, “I’d like to thank the Academy, and everyone in the crew whose names I just don’t know.”
“Look at that, now we’re talking,” Martin said as he admired his first ever SAG Award.
