Ewan McGregor has given fans new hope that a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi could be made in an appearance at the LA Comic Con.

Ideas explored

At the event, he said that Disney and Lucasfilm are “exploring” ideas for more stories involving the iconic Jedi master, as reported by Deadline.

“Obviously, between the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and when Alec Guiness is Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s got to be another few stories in there,” he said.

Indeed, in the Star Wars timeline, the 2022 Obi-Wan Kenobi series took place a decade before the events of the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope, where Guiness had the role. So there is potential for more stories.

McGregor has played Obi-Wan for more than two decades. He first took on the role for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999 and reprised the role for the following two prequel films, Attack of the Clones (2022) and Revenge of the Sith (2005). He then came back to the role for the Disney+ TV series.

The Scottish actor has previously said that he would be open to picking up his light saber again.

Down to Disney

In the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan emerged from hiding to rescue a young Princess Leia from the Galactic Empire’s Inquisitors. He also encountered Darth Vader, who had started out as his apprentice Anakin Skywalker, before he went over to the Dark Side.

But whether the series continues is down to Disney, and they have yet to make any comments on whether a series will be forthcoming. The company has recently pulled back on some of its Star Wars TV series, such as cancelling The Acolyte after just one season.
