Fans are convinced they’ve figured out the Stranger Things season 5 trailer date. Plus, if they’re right, we don’t have too much longer to wait before we can watch it.
This new theory has been circulating amongst fans eager to see our first footage from the show’s final season.

So far, no official footage has been released from Netflix. However, if this fan theory is correct, that could all change on 22 March. It’s this date that has become the focal point for Stranger Things fans due to its recurrence in The Duffer Brothers’ ongoing story.
Why? Well, 22 March is the birthday of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), the first character to go missing inside the ominous Upside Down in Stranger Things’ first season. Ever since that moment, fan sites have pointed out how Will has become sidelined and overshadowed by other members of his friend group.

His birthday has also been frequently overlooked and according to sites like The Direct, it’s even become a bit of an “inside joke” in the Stranger Things fan community.
Stranger Things season 5 trailer theory explained
The same outlet points towards the fact that Will’s birthday has been mentioned various times throughout the series. Despite this, the show’s wider teenage cast actually forgot it entirely during season 4’s roller rink episode.
During a chat with Screen Rant, even the Duffers managed to forget exactly when Will’s birthday was. “We wrote his birthday six years ago,” said Matt. “I don’t remember…”
Since then, it’s become a bit of joke amongst fans, with the official Stranger Things X account making a point of celebrating Will’s birthday with a social media post every 22 March.

All of this information has led many fans to believe that the joke could soon come full circle, with Netflix releasing their first Stranger Things 5 trailer on 22 March 2025.
When is the new trailer released?
As it stands, Netflix has yet to confirm when we’ll get to see the first trailer for Stranger Things 5.
That means that – while compelling and certainly interesting – this particular Stranger Things trailer theory remains exactly that – just a theory.
That said, we have seen some stuff from Stranger Things season 5. A cast photo marked the beginning of production, while a behind-the-scenes video teased its cast and crew hard at work on new episodes.
On Stranger Things day 2024, we even got the titles of season 5’s new episodes. They included The Crawl, The Vanishing of [blurred out], The Turnbow Trap, Scorcher, Shock Jock, Escape from Camazotz, The Bridge and Rightside Up.
