  • The actress has been subject to body shaming online recently
  • She is currently preparing to play boxing legend Christy Martin
  • Sweeney responded by sharing a video of her working out

Sydney Sweeney shut down body shaming comments with a video of her working out in preparation for a new role.

The actress was inundated with trolling over her appearance in recent days, with many sharing photos of her they believed to be unflattering on social media.

In the video, Sweeney combines screenshots of some of the cruel comments with footage of her working out, preparing for her forthcoming role as boxing legend Christy Martin. The video sees her flipping a large tyre, working out in a boxing ring and hanging upside down on a machine.

“Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope”

In October, Sweeney shared photos of her physical transformation after paparazzi photos surfaced of her on set.

“Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes, so here’s a little [behind-the-scenes] from my film I’m working on right now,” she said.

“Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” Sweeney continued. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. more to come soon.”

Sweeney told Deadline earlier this year that she was attracted to the role because Martin had “not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical and financial abuse.”

“She’s not pretty, she can’t act”

It’s not the first time Sweeney has faced criticism while in the public eye.

Earlier this year, Hollywood producer Carol Baum insulted both her looks and acting talent, claiming that she “doesn’t get” the actress. She also branded her recent film with Glen Powell, Anyone But You, “unwatchable”

Sweeney’s agent released a statement on her behalf. “How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” it read. “If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful.”

Sweeney told NME in March that there’s “not anything I can do” about the attention, both good and bad, she receives online.

“I think it’s important to be aware of everything and then use that information however I may well. But I’m just being me, that’s all.”
