The 1975 are headlining Friday night at Glastonbury 2025, and the reaction has been mixed.

The band is fronted by the controversial figure, Matty Healy. He provokes strong reactions on both sides of the spectrum. The frontman is widely regarded to be a Marmite figure in music circles. Some adore his messy stage presence. Others totally abhor him and his off-the-cuff comments.

When the lineup of those heading to Somerset’s Worthy Farm was released, social media sounded off about the decision to have them on the Pyramid Stage’s prime slot. The reaction was what you thought it might be.

The 1975 fans were pleased as punch!

Some of the die-hard stans of the band were excited by the news but left reeling by the knowledge they would not be in the crowd.

Someone wrote, “the 1975 headlining glastobury and I won’t be there.”

Another found the news as a reminder to “never kill yourself”.

The bad

The decision to give the top spot to The 1975 was called “absolutely mental.”

“Absolutely mental that The 1975 are headliners, just an awful band Either Alanis Morisette or Busta Rhymes would have been much better as headliners. Like genuinely what are we doing,” someone wrote.

Another dubbed Healy “the human embodiment of a wet cigarette”.

Another declared they were BORED with the Chocolate group getting top slots at festivals.

“I NEED the world to move on from The 1975 as a headline act, I am BORED.”

Another called the decision one of the “worst” decisions to lead the bill in ever.”

“Surely one of the worst – if not THE worst – Glastonbury headliners of all time?,” someone asked.
