So the Conclave went off without a hitch. No car bombs, no candidates being confronted by nuns with whom they have had an illicit love child with. Stanley Tucci, Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini were absolutely NOWHERE to be seen. But a new Pope has been elected. And he is from Chicago.

First American In History To Win The Papacy

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, is the first American in history to lead the Catholic Church. Prevost has spent a large amount of his time as a missionary in Peru, but more was made of his Illinois roots upon his ascendency to the papacy

Within minutes, ABC News was fixating on the fact the newly christened Leo XIV was a fan of the Chicago Cubs (although it has since been suggested he actually follows the White Sox) and people around the United States were, in general, absolutely losing their minds over the news.

Naturally, as masses gathered by St.Peter’s Basilica to catch sight of the new head of the Catholic Church, reactions on social media were going crazy.
