  • The Rock returned to the ring at WrestleMania 40, earlier this year
  • The 10-time World Champion is expected back in the ring within the next few months
  • WrestleMania matches against Roman Reigns and current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes have been rumored

The Rock may have been 11 years removed from his last match inside a WWE ring when he teamed with younger cousin Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of night one of WrestleMania 40, this year, but The Great One still knew exactly which buttons to press with the capacity crowd inside Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia. The People’s Champion was as electrifying as ever.

Rebranded as a villainous heel during his latest run, often referred to as The Final Boss, the man Hollywood has known as Dwayne Johnson for the last 20 years displayed some of his finest ever character work inside the squared circle during his blood feud with Cody Rhodes.

At 52 years of age, The Rock could have gladly bowed out of his career as an active wrestler in Philadelphia, even if he was unsuccessful in keeping the WWE Title on his cousin, Roman Reigns, in the main event of night two of WrestleMania 40. Johnson had his hand raised in victory on night one after pinning Rhodes, but as his promo with the newly crowned champion the night after on Monday Night Raw teased, The Rock has unfinished business in WWE.

This unfinished business was further exacerbated by the 10-time World Champion turning up at WWE’s Bad Blood event in Atlanta, last month, to face off with Reigns and Rhodes after the unlikely duo had defeated the Solo Sikoa-led Bloodline in the main event. With WrestleMania season on the horizon, it looks as if we could be on another collision course between this Big Three between now and mid-April 2025.

During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, The Rock revealed just how much he enjoyed stepping back into the ring this year, saying, “I had such a great time. With Cody [Rhodes], and Seth [Rollins], and Roman [Reigns] — and it was just wild. You know, I grew up in that world of pro wrestling. There’s nothing like when that music hits and the crowd goes crazy and you can connect.”

Fallon then asked The Rock if he felt at home when returning to WWE, to which Johnson responded, “That’s a good way to put it. Because, you know, I grew up in the world of pro wrestling and I followed the careers of my grandfather and my dad. And my grandfather and my dad used to wrestle up here at the [Madison Square] Garden in the 70s. And here I come along, not trying to screw anything up with their legacy. Then all of a sudden, you know, the business has grown into what it’s grown into. TKO now owns WWE, and I have the honor of sitting on the board of TKO. So what a full-circle moment. It’s crazy, man.”

The Rock’s words certainly seem to suggest that he is eager to lace up the boots at least one more time before allowing the sun to set on his Hall of Fame worthy career. Whether that’s against Reigns, Rhodes or both remains to be seen. The Final Boss’ last stand could go very, very hard indeed whoever he ends up staring down in his final battle.
