Monica Lewinsky is back in the news after she was interviewed on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Call Her Daddy is run by podcaster Alex Cooper who started on Barstool Sports and then moved to Spotify. Cooper expanded the podcast and now interviews celebrities on it. In the interview, Lewinsky spoke about how she felt about the affair and at the time the experience of going through an FBI investigation at age 24.

For context, Lewinsky rose to fame when she was exposed for having an affair with President Bill Clinton. A 22-year-old Lewinsky was an intern at The White House and her relationship with the former president lasted from 1995 to 1997. In January 1998, news of the affair broke and Lewinsky was thrust into the spotlight.

The story was broken by Matt Drudge in The Drudge Report. He leaked the information on the affair to the press. The Washington Post and The New York Times picked up the story in the mainstream media, creating a media circus around Lewinsky. As a result, she was ostracized by the public and Clinton was impeached.

However now at 51, she is an activist and has become a controversial figure in pop culture. Because of her sex scandal, Lewinsky has been namedropped in many pop culture references over the years as well as songs. Here are some of the songs where she is mentioned.

Who has name-dropped Monica Lewinsky in their songs?

1. Partition – Beyoncé (2013)

In 2013 Beyoncé released her self-titled album with hits like Drunk In Love and Partition. In Partition, a risky song about intimacy, the singer name-drops Lewinksy. In the song’s lyrics, she says, “He Monica Lewinsky’d all on my gown.”

This is a reference to some evidence that was used in the trial regarding the affair. Evidence arose of a blue dress that Lewinsky wore that had physical remnants of her and Clinton’s affair. Do with that what you will. In the case of Partition, Beyoncé is referencing a sexual act that her lover does.

Lewinsky even asked the Crazy In Love singer to remove the lyric from her song in 2022, but it has stayed.

2. Rap God Eminiem (2013)

Also in 2013, rapper Eminem referenced the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal to provide imagery of a cultural reference point. In a lyric, he says, “Ever since Bill Clinton was still in office with Monica Lewinsky.”

Clinton was in office from 1993 until 2001. In this lyric, Eminem is comparing the period in the nineties to how long he has been rapping. Eminem had been working since the 1980s but blew up in 1997 after the release of the Slim Shady EP and in 1999 with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP.

The rapper is known for his pop culture references in his music, so it is no surprise.

3. Willie Dynamite Mac Miller (2010)

The late Mac Miller was known for his relationship with Ariana Grande and his lyricism, but did you know he mentioned Lewinsky? He was ahead of the game and mentioned the singer in his 2010 song Willie Dynamite. In some rather crude lyrics, Miller says, “Talk a little s***, man, probably thought he dissed me
B****, please, I just ate out Monica Lewinsky.” Charming.

The lyrics here may act as a reference to getting a lot of girls. Miller is boasting in this song about how many girls want him, and referencing someone as famous as Lewinsky who is known for a sex scandal is a way to do that.

4. Nicki Minaj Itty Bitty Piggy (2009)

Again, Nicki Minaj is someone who is known for her savage lyrics and pop culture references. She created a whole song referencing famous rappers in Barbie Tingz! But this is interesting because Minaj referenced Lewinsky more than once before she was famous.

In her 2009 song Itty Bitty Piggy, she raps, “Like, like I’m Nicki Minaj, Nicki Lewinski, Nicki the Ninja.” Here she is using the nickname as more of a compliment to herself. Before she says she “annihilated” the other girls around her. In this interpretation, it could be that Minaj is saying she is more than one thing. Her name is Nicki Minaj, but she is also Nicki Lewinsky (maybe a sex goddess?) and a ninja, a.k.a a strong woman.

She is unapologetic and multi-faceted and will take down anyone who says otherwise.

5. G-Eazy Monica Lewinsky (2014)

The intro of this song by rapper G-Eazy features the audio of Bill Clinton’s speech in which he denied having relations with Lewinsky. However, the song is named right after her! Unfortunately, the song isn’t a compliment to Lewinsky. Her name is once again a reference for a sexual act. The broader song is about the lifestyle of fame, sex, and money that G-Eazy and his collaborators claim to live.

6. Big Sean ft Drake – Made (2010)

And to end our list, the early-career collaboration between rapper Big Sean and singer Drake is another reference to Lewinsky. In 2010 the two did the first of a few collaborations and worked together on the track Made. Again this is another flexing track with the musicians explaining how they’ve made it. We get it, you’re rich!

In Big Sean’s verse, he says, “No that ain’t my girl but every leader needs a Monica. I’m the head of my estate, ain’t that ironic, huh?”

Referencing Lewinsky here, the two are talking about their success and how it has given them lots of things. In this case, her name is used to reference a secret relationship. Sean says that “Ain’t my girl”, indicating he is not in a relationship with this woman, but that he is getting something from her, which is probably intimacy.

Lewinsky was having a physical affair with Clinton but wasn’t in a relationship with him.

The reference to himself being a “leader” in the situation means he is indirectly comparing himself to Clinton, who was Lewinsky’s boss while she interned. Sean is saying he has the power, and that a man “needs” a girl on the down low that his partner doesn’t know about for his satisfaction. A sad message, but a common one in rap culture.

Are there more songs about Monica Lewinsky?

Yes, there are lots of songs that are about the 51-year-old. Her name has been cemented in pop culture for the 26-year-old sex scandal. Many of the references are crude and NSFW, so we can’t include them in the list.
