Travis Kelce called it an ‘honour’ Donald Trump was planning on attending the Super Bowl

Travis Kelce called it “an honour” that President Donald Trump was planning on attending the Super Bowl LIX, which will see his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, take on the Philadephia Eagles.

“It’s a great honour I think, no matter who the president is,” Kelce told reporters in the run-up to the biggest night in the NFL calendar

“I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there – it’s the best country in the world so it’d be pretty cool.”

Trump’s attendance at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, 9 February, will mark the first time a current resident of the Oval Office will attend a Super Bowl game.

Why is Travis Kelce saying this so upsetting?

This statement was controversial to many people on many prongs. Firstly, the GOP president has recently launched a series of alarming policy moves.

These include threatening undocumented migrants with deportation and other draconian reforms.

Kelce also caught heat as he is dating pop superstar Taylor Swift, whose endorsement of the Democratic candidate promoted Trump to aim at her with derogatory comments.

One user wrote, “Trump ripping apart the foundations of our country but Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce excited to throw a ball in front of him for a couple hours…”

Someone else wrote, “travis kelce saying he’s happy to have donald trump at his game because he’s the president and the us is the best country in the world.”

Others pointed out how it was strange to say that when his girlfriend Swift was such a point of his ire during the recent Presidential election.

Other people highlighted Kelce’s history of backing progressive causes to scoff at the suggestion he was a Trump supporter.

“you think travis kelce…one of the first white nfl players to kneel for the anthem…who got so much shit from maga for doing a pfizer commercial…and for doing a bud light commercial after the dylan mulvaney stuff…IS A TRUMP SUPPORTER?!?,” one person said.
