- Stellar cast on board for movie led by Henry Cavill
- Movie will be a live-action version of the popular anime
- Production set to start in December 2024

The much-loved anime Voltron is getting a live-action movie reimagining with a stellar cast led by Henry Cavill – here is all we know about it.
Who is starring in Voltron?
Henry Cavill is leading the cast of Volton. His casting was announced in October, along with that of Daniel Quinn-Toye.
Since then, singer Rita Ora and Sterling K Brown – best know for appearing in This Is Us – have also joined the cast. John Kim has also signed up.
Meanwhile, Rawson Marshall Thurber is in the director’s chair. Thurber is also co-writing the script with Ellen Shanman and is also one of the producers.
What was Voltron?
The film will take its inspiration from the well-loved animated show from the 1980s. Voltron followed a team of space explorers who pilot five robot lions, which can combine into a giant super robot, which is called Voltron. It ran for two seasons in the US, and was the top-rated syndicated children’s show for the two years of its original run.
Voltron’s first season was adapted from the Japanese anime show Beast King GoLion. The second season was an edited version of Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, with a heavily changed storyline.
What is the plot of the Voltron movie?
What the plot of the film will be has not been revealed yet. However, Thurber recently said in a video message at VoltCon in Indianapolis that Voltron would “stay true to the iconic elements” that fans love.
“We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to […] those iconic elements that you love, that I love.”
When will Voltron be released?
We don’t have a potential release date for the Voltron movie. However, filming is expected to begin in Australia later this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so a release date of sometime in 2026 looks likely.
