Finally, a teaser trailer for Wednesday season 2 has dropped. Netflix has treated fans to the trailer release on 23 April after unveiling a poster on 22 April. The show premiered on the streaming service in November 2022. Instantly, it broke records and acquired over hundreds of hours of watch time. In January 2023, Wednesday was renewed for season 2.

The show follows Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she goes to a supernatural school, Nevermore Academy, to harness her abilities. While there, she becomes entangled in a murder mystery she is determined to solve, and uncovers some ghastly secrets about the school and her family.

Additionally, the new trailer reveals that part 1 will hit Netflix on 6 August. Meanwhile, part 2 will come on 3 September. With a new trailer released ahead of the summer release date, let’s break it down.

What happened in the Wednesday season 2 trailer?

You can watch the trailer here.

The beginning of the trailer begins in typical Wednesday fashion, with Wednesday travelling and struggling to get through airport security. When she is stopped because of the metal detectors, she empties her bag to reveal a taser, knives, and an assortment of weapons. Strangely, she only gets stopped because of some sunscreen.

Now, she could be on her way to fight someone, or this could be a pre-trailer skit, but we think it may be a hint to some locations outside of Nevermore or Jericho.

From the get-go, it’s established that the Addams family will have larger roles. We see Wednesday with Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), their driver, and Pugsley, her younger brother (Isaac Ordonez), travel back to Nevermore. Morticia remarks, “This is the first time you’ve willingly returned to a school”.

In response, Wednesday says, deadpan as ever, that it feels like “Returning to the scene of the crime”.

What could ‘the crime’ be?

The crime is a big clue for what fans can expect in season 2 – another mystery. Like, who was threatening Wednesday at the end of season 1 when she left Nevermore, and is there another killer roaming besides Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan)?

As a note, Tyler was captured and escaped at the end of season 1 in his wolf-like Hyde form, so there is that.

Later, Wednesday returns to her room with her chipper roommate and blonde bestie Enid (Emma Myers). Cue another student or someone with glasses being attacked/murdered (could it be Eugene?), and a cloud of dust and bees travelling through the woods, which could hint at Eugene exercising his abilities.

If you remember, he has the power to control bees, and as president of the beekeeping club, he may be using the bees to look for something, maybe?

However, there is a possibility it’s a trap, as we later see Wednesday walking towards the bees, looking troubled. Maybe someone convinced her Eugene was attacked, and she ran to him because of the bee sighting.

Wednesday season 2 – Is she captured, or is it a vision?

Next, we see Wednesday tied up – in more ways than one – in a creepy-looking room surrounded by dolls. Undoubtedly, the dolls belong to someone who is trying to torment Wednesday. Like in Pretty Little Liars, the dolls must have significance. As for what, we are not sure.

In this scene, Wednesday looks scared, or as if she has makeup painted on like a clown with the mascara that runs down her face. However, it could be a vision, maybe the dolls are leading her close to the killer, like her visions did of Gates’ mansion in season 1.

We’d boldly like to suggest that maybe it’s Tyler, as her only romantic interest, who may have some emotional effect on her still.

The Addams and the dolls – what does it mean?

In contrast, that may not be the case, as we see her standing with a knife over the doll, freed as she says, “Let’s play dolls,” which is something that was revealed early in a behind-the-scenes teaser video back in 2024. Maybe the dolls hold spirits, or someone possesses them to torment Wednesday?

Humorously, Wednesday then gifts Enid a creepy blonde doll, which the girl gladly accepts, even if she says it’s “creepy”.

Later, a key setting, which looks to be the setting of one of the murders in season 2, is at a carnival or funfair. In a voiceover, Wednesday states, “Whenever there’s a murder or mayhem, you will always find an Addam”.

In this clip, there is a shot of a car flipping over, a person in a mask, and what looks like a disaster at the outdoor event, if the Addams’ faces are anything to go by!

Now, with the Addams family having a larger role, is it possible they are involved with the murders? Maybe. The shot of Pugsley, Morticia, and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) looking concerned could be at Wednesday or for something they’ve done. Who knows? After all, they could be protecting her.

What are the deadly consequences?

Later, we see Morticia looking at what looks like a diary with sketches in (possibly Wednesday’s or Pugsley’s). A voiceover says, “Every family has dark secrets, Wednesday. And secrets can have deadly consequences.”

With the word ‘dead,’ a shot shows a gravestone that reads, Addams, however, it looks like it’s chopped off. Could this allude to a new possible Addams family member, or a family murder cover-up, perhaps?

Maybe Morticia knows something, the same way she knew Gomez did not kill anyone and let him take the fall for killing Garrett Gates.

Perhaps this is a warning to Wednesday not to keep digging, or she’ll end up dead (which would explain her having a premonition) in the trailer’s end. Alternatively, maybe she hasn’t found out what darkness lies beneath her family.

Wednesday Vs. Hunter?

Towards the trailer’s end, we see a few monsters, what looks like a dragon, and Hyde, a.k.a. Hunter. Hunter was confirmed to return, and since he didn’t die, fans knew he’d be back. Whether he will be a friend or foe to Wednesday remains to be seen, but we don’t think he’ll be the big bad of season 2.

Notably, there is a new image of Hunter in human form. He looks as if he’s tied up, so it could be possible someone (maybe even Wednesday) is holding him for questioning.

If we were to bet, it would be someone much more evil.

If anything, he may help her solve a new mystery. Just don’t expect any romance from it.

Finally, the trailer finishes with Wednesday saying, ” You don’t worry about me, Mother, I do my best work in the dark”.

Honestly, this could mean anything. It could be literal, with Wednesday tapping into dark magic, or working under the cover of night, which is a time when lots of the show is set.

Stay tuned for more updates on Wednesday, season 2.
