Last year, they were notable for several reasons unrelated to the prestigious awards.

Firstly, there was the iconic hard launch of Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s relationship. 2023 saw a drip of reports about their romance but no real confirmation.
Additionally, there was a whole drama with Selena Gomez. This included speculation Jenner had denied her a photo op with her pal Chamalet. This was all sparked by being nabbed whispering some piping tea to her bestie, Taylor Swift.
Selena Gomez reveals what she was talking about with Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes, shutting down Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet speculation:

Potential vindication for Gomez came when it emerged months later that could have been about her Only Murders In the Building co-stars Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s alleged blossoming love.
Speaking of Swift, she was also at the centre of the post-ceremony chatter when she was visibly unimpressed with host Jo Koy’s opening monologue. It included jokes about her presence at her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games.
Here’s everything we know about when the 2025 Golden Globes are happening.
When are the 2025 Golden Globes happening?
The 82nd annual Golden Globes will occur on Sunday, 5 January, at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton Hotel. It has taken place at the exact same venue since its 1961 debut.
What channel are the 2025 Golden Globes on?
You can tune into the 2025 Golden Globes on CBS at 8 pm EST, 5 pm PST. American and UK viewers can also watch it via the streaming platform Paramount+.
Who is hosting the 2025 Golden Globes?
In an attempt to prevent any bombings like last year’s Jo Koy, the Golden Globes has recruited the talent of Nikki Glaser. The comedian is “thrilled” to be MCing proceedings at the show where she is up for a gong.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favourite nights of television and now I get a front row seat. The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so.)
“It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes),” she said in a statement.
“Some of my favourite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear.
“I just hope to continue in that time honoured tradition (that might also get me cancelled). This is truly a dream job,” Glaser continued.
Who is leading the 2025 Golden Globes nominations?
The titles up for nods were announced in a special broadcast with Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut on Monday, 9 December.
The Hulu original series The Bear leads the television portion with five nominations. Last year, it won three out of its five nominations. Only Murders in the Building and Shogun trail behind with four each this year.
Film-wise, the mob musical piece Emilia Perez is up for 10 awards. This includes Gomez’s first acting nod. It leads to The Brutalist, which has seven. Conclave boasts six, while Anora and The Substance have five.
Last year, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, a biopic of the father of the atomic bomb, was the big cinematic winner of the night. Cillian Murphy took home the best actor for portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer.
On the telly front, HBO’s Succession was the big success story. The last season of the Jesse Armstrong-created media family drama swept up four awards. Brian Cox took home Best Actor in a Drama Series.
Have there been any years where the Golden Globes didn’t happen?
Well, no, but the 2022 ceremony was hit by a boycott. This came after a piece in the Los Angeles Times, published in 2021, made a number of allegations against its voting body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Scarlett Johansson, who was up for five awards, was one of the many stars who ruled out attending.
She issued a statement, recalling “sexist questions and remarks by certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment”.
“Unless there is necessary fundamental reform within the organization, I believe it is time that we take a step back from the HFPA and focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and the industry as a whole,” Johnasson continued.
What did these allegations include?
The article claimed that no Black people held any of the 87 voting positions. Additionally, there was a very limited representation of journalists from international outlets.
Also, there were accusations of an unethical level of “freebies” being taken from studios and PRs. These included those campaigning for award nods.
When was the controversy fixed?
Well, when the demands were met. This included diversifying the voting base and issuing a ban on getting goodies from industry figures.
