There has been plenty of excitement since it was announced that iconic show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is being rebooted – and there are ways you can catch up on the original show.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Hulu is developing a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which originally ran from 1997-2003. Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as the titular character too.

Comeback

Since then, Gellar has posted on Instagram to allay any fan fears about the beloved show being rebooted. In a lengthy statement she said: “I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit Buffy and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.”

Gellar also expanded on the lengthy process of how the reboot has come about.

What was Buffy the Vampire Slayer about?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was about a teenage girl who becomes the latest in a long line of – you guessed it – vampire slayers, chosen by fate to battle against vampires, demons and various other monsters. She lived in Sunnydale, which just happened to be the location of a ‘Hellmouth’ – a portal between this reality and the next, which meant that all sorts of beings were drawn to the city.

Buffy accepted her role as a slayer, but also tried to live a normal teenage life, and the balancing of the two often provided plot points. She was aided by her watcher, Giles, who would guide her, and a loyal band of friends, known as the Scooby Gang, who would help her on missions.

The show was hugely successful and spawned a range of merchandise, comics, novels, video games and more.

Where can I watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The show has remained popular ever since it was transmitted and thanks to streaming has since found new generations who enjoy it – possibly watching alongside their parents who watched it on linear TV when it first aired.

Fortunately, there are many places where you can access all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Streaming services that have it available include Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, Fandango at Home and Apple TV.

Buffy can also be downloaded from Amazon Video and Microsoft Store.

And, for those who are retro, the complete series can be bought as a DVD Box Set.
