Unlike Foster, Jackman is better known for his roles on the screen. He is best known for starring in The Wolverine and its follow-up movies, including the 2024 crossover Deadpool and Wolverine. However, Jackman has had roles on Broadway and became close friends with Foster when they started working together in 2022 on the revived production of The Music Man.
The rising stardom of Sutton Foster
Foster and Jackman have been friends for years but only became romantic around late 2023. They have not publicly commented on their relationship, and have chosen a more private approach. Their outings came after Jackman split with his long-time wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023. The announcement was made that month that the couple were separating after 27 years of marriage.

First and foremost Foster is a Broadway star and has been for a while. She has been married twice but is a lot more famous now she’s dating Jackman.
Sutton Foster’s early life
Sutton Lenore Foster was born on 18 March 1975 in Statesboro Georgia. Foster was keen to act as a teenager, she left high school before she graduated and joined the national tour of the musical The Will Rodgers Follies.
The Broadway star attended the prestigious Carnegie Melon University but left after a year to pursue her theater dream. Her theater career began in the 1990s.
Sutton Foster’s career
She played Sandy in the Broadway musical Grease in 1996. The following year, she was in the ensemble cast for The Scarlet Pimpernel. When that musical closed she joined the production of Annie. Her longer-lasting role came after in Les Misérables as Eponine Thenardier.
Following that production she joined the cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie after drama between the cast resulted in a recast. During this time, a virtually unknown Foster continued to star in various productions until her breakthrough in 2002.
Her starring moment
Foster’s leading role in Thoroughly Modern Millie earned positive reviews from theater critics and won Foster the 2002 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. The Tony Award was her first of many. She left the role in 2004 after 2 years.
Her light continued to shine as she starred in more productions. The now Broadway star was a part of other productions in the 2000s including the musical of Louisa May Alcott’s novel Little Women and Shrek The Musical where she played Fiona.
Projects outside of Broadway
In 2009 Foster turned to projects off of Broadway. She released her debut album Wish which had a mixture of genres. She starred in the comedy Trust, one of her first productions not on Broadway in 2010 alongside Scrubs star Zac Braff.
From 2010, Foster delved into teaching. She taught a semester in the spring of 2010 at the prestigious Tisch School of Arts, as well as a few other universities over the years.

2010s and the road to Hugh
In 2011 Foster returned to Broadway starring in Anything Goes. She turned her attention to TV and starred in the shortlived drama Bunheads in 2012, written by Gilmore Girls’ Amy Sherman Palladino. In 2013 she co-starred with Robin Williams in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn. Also that year she starred in a musical production of Violet, earning her yet another Tony Award nomination.
Foster continued her theatre efforts until she turned her attention to TV in 2014. She was cast in the leading role in the comedy Younger, created by Sex and the City’s creator Darren Star. Foster led the show for four seasons until it finished airing in July 2017.
Throughout the 2010s, Foster continued to star in productions where she could, made guest appearances on TV, and co-directed productions at Ball State University, who she had a close relationship with.
2020s and The Music Man
In July 2021, she made her debut in London starring in Anything Goes again at the Barbican Theatre.
In 2022 she had another starring role playing Marian Paroo alongside her now-boyfriend Hugh Jackman in The Music Man. The production continued until January 2023, but Jackman and Foster remained close.
When that finished, she starred in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street and in Once Upon a Mattress. In 2025, it was announced that a musical version of A Coal Miner’s Daughter was in the works with Foster set to star.
