The glitzy ceremony, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Tonight’s winners may find that it will improve their prospects at the BAFTAs and the Oscars later in the season. Winning can boost the profile of a project while voters for those awards are still casting their ballots.

The Golden Globes also hands out more awards than other ceremonies as it splits films and TV shows into separate drama and comedy categories. Actors have a better chance of taking home a trophy too, with more categories available for them.

The largely Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez racked up the most nominations with a total of 10. Also expected to win big are The Brutalist with seven nominations, Conclave with six, and Anora and The Substance have five nominations each. Meanwhile, Challengers, A Real Pain, Wicked and The Wild Robot

Someone’s got to give out those awards though – so who might we see giving out trophies?

Aubrey Plaza was also meant to present an award, but this may not happen following the death of her husband.

News broke yesterday that Jeff Baena, a director, had passed away at the age of 47. He reportedly died by suicide and was found by an assistant at the couple’s LA home on Friday, January 3.

According to Deadline, the filmmaker’s family “is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time”.

Baena and Plaza – who is known for her roles in Parks and Recreation and The White Lotus – had been in a relationship since 2011, and married in 2021. They had worked together on numerous projects, including Spin Me Around and Joshy.
