Liefeld has been working with the comic book publishers for over three decades but that working relationship has quickly soured. This started earlier this month when he formally cut ties with Marvel, alleging that he was snubbed at the July 2024 premiere of Deadpool and Wolverine.
He doubled down of his criticism of Feige after it emerged that Marvel’s last filmm, Captain America: Brave New World, had flopped at the box office. The film suffered from a huge drop in takings in its second week in theaters.
According to Forbes, this was the third-most significant drop in the film series behind The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Liefeld calls for Feige to resign

Taking to social media, Liefeld wrote: “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.” He then drew attention to the comic book giant’s repeated post-pandemic slump in its films’ box office performance.
“MCU is on an extended downside. This is beyond a trend, it’s become the norm,” he wrote.
“If this was sports, Feige would be removed. Marvel brand is like Dodgers, Lakers, Yankees, Celtics, coaches that win championships are removed a year later when the results are disappointing.”
In a follow-up post, he added: “Eight movies crash over the last three years. Don’t we want better movies? You get the curiosity crowd then plunge.”

What apparently happened at the Deadpool and Wolverine premiere?

Liefeld suggested that Feige had ignored him on the red carpet of Deadpool and Wolverine before finding out he and his family were not invited to the afterparty.

The comic book creator also said that he posed for pictures on the red carpet with Deadpool & Wolverine creatives. He claimed that the photos were opnly taken to appease him and were deleted later.
Speaking on his podcast Robservations, Liefeld claimed that his treatment “was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me”.
He continued: “At some point, you go, ‘I’ve received the message, and the message is clear.’”
Disney and Marvel have declined to comment on the situation.
