With Wicked Part 2 set to be released worldwide this November, it’s no wonder that fans are already hyped about visiting Oz once more.

The returning cast includes Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande – who are both nominated at the upcoming Oscars ceremony for their roles as Elphaba and Glinda in the musical adaptation – with the likes of Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater and Jeff Goldblum set to join them again.

For those still in the dark about the plot (where have you been?!), Wicked is the prequel to the Wizard of Oz.

And so the big question on everyone’s lips about the second instalment is whether Dorothy Gale will appear in the movie, or whether the character will just be referenced off-screen, as she is in the stage show.

While the information is being kept under wraps, one name rumored to be playing Dorothy is Alisha Weir.

And while she has neither confirmed nor denied her part in the next movie, the 15-year-old – who stunned audiences as the lead character in the 2022 adaptation of Matilda: the Musical – smartly answered questions on the red carpet recently.

“I have heard, I have seen the rumors, for sure,” said Weir. “I mean, how cool would that be? I’m such a big fan of Wicked, and such a big fan of Ariana Grande, and Cynthia [Erivo], and Jon [M.] Chu, but that would be amazing.”

In another clip, Weir called the whispers “crazy” – but again, didn’t deny them!

“I was like, ‘This is absolutely crazy’, and it went so crazy on social media and everybody was asking me,” she continued. “I mean, that is… that would be wonderful. I’m such a big fan of Wicked and I’ve seen the first one with my family, and I’m just such a big fan of Jon Chu’s work.”

‘She didn’t deny it!’

Fans went wild for the comments on social media.

“Well she didn’t deny it,” wrote one, while another said, “Soooo hope she is! She would be an amazing Dorothy!”

Others praised her media training.

“Oh this girlie is PR trained the house boots down,” one joked, as someone else continued, “Her PR team has trained her well cause she managed to not completely deny or confirm it lol.”

Another fan praised the teenager’s maturity.

“Whether she is Dorothy or not, what a great answer when addressing rumors,” they wrote. “I mean, most celebrities who are in the business for years don’t give an answer this well (just look at Cynthia and Ariana‘s answers about the Oscar performance). What an impressive young lady.”

Fans have suspected Alisha Weir is Dorothy before

It’s not the first time that Weird has dealt with rumors about appearing in the movie.

Fans first became suspicious when the Abigail star was spotted walking the red carpet at the first film’s premiere despite not appearing in Wicked Part One herself.

Speaking to Variety, Chu played coy when discussing Dorothy’s involvement. “In the show, Dorothy is around. They have to intersect, and you can only tease it so much,” he explained, referencing the events of the popular Wicked stage show.

“I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to Part Two.”
