If you’re a fan of wild cinema, then odds are you saw the completely off-the-wall Michael Fassbender sizzle reel for a new movie called Kung Fury 2.
This action comedy stars Fassbender alongside 80s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in a movie that is as colorfully over-the-top as it is unpredictable.

The film was actually shot a few years ago but has remained in release-limbo ever since cameras stopped rolling. Earlier this weekend, a short, 10-minute collection of clips – or sizzle reel, as it’s known – made its way online. Fans were immediately intrigued.
The clip sees Fassbender play a hard-as-nails FBI agent named Colt Magnum. In addition to sporting a mullet and a massive handgun, he also boasts a retro moustache and some futuristic-threads.

Teaming up with dino cop colleagues like the brilliantly-named half-man, half-Triceratops Triceracop and the rest of the Thundercops, it’s Magnum’s job to keep future Miami safe.
However, when a mysterious enemy emerges, everything is thrown into the air. The sizzle reel has piqued audience interest in this unusual new feature – but it’s also posed loads of questions.

What is Kung Fury 2?
Kung Fury 2 is a bigger-budget, more ambitious follow up to a 2015 retro action comedy called Kung Fury.
It was directed and written by David Sandberg and starred one-third of The Lonely Island, Jorma Taccone. Knight Rider actor David Hasslehoff also appeared in a cameo capacity.
The movie was funded via Kickstarter and later became a hit on YouTube. Sandberg co-wrote Kung Fury 2 with Tyler Burton Smith, creating a new story with a bigger cast and bigger effects.
According to the movie’s plot, the film is set in an alternate 1985 where “Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury and his Thundercops, the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Führer, Adolf Hitler.
“After the tragic death of a Thundercop sees the group disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Führer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy and defeat evil once and for all.”
What happened to Kung Fury 2?
According to reports on places like Variety, the movie has been tied up with legal issues since 2020. These have blocked and delayed its route to screens.
The same outlet confirms that these issues were between the movie’s producers and some Chinese investors that put money into the film. The legal problems forced post-production to bring to a halt and as a result, the movie has not yet seen the light of day.
Will Kung Fury 2 ever be released?
While no concrete release date – or even any release date updates – have emerged recently, the arrival of this sizzle reel could potentially get audiences hungry for more.
This, in turn, could put pressure on the powers-that-be to help get the movie released sooner rather than later.
While the sizzle reel was uploaded anonymously, it has since been confirmed to be authentic.
“This was an internal promo video that was never supposed to be seen by the public. I feel bad because it contains a bunch of plot points and temp VFX,” the film’s director explained to Variety.
“I hope at least people can see the passion that we poured into the movie, the world deserves to see it as it was meant to be seen. This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years but I promise to keep fighting for it and make sure this film gets the chance it truly deserves.”
