Rapper and YouTuber IShowSpeed has suffered a leg injury after he took part in a bizarre race chasing a cheese in the UK.

Yes, you read that right: IShowSpeed was one of many people chasing a cheese.

Cheese chasing

While many eyes this weekend will have been on the Indianapolis 500 or the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix, a race of an entirely different kind attracted thousands of spectators at a hill near Brockworth in Gloucestershire.

Here, competitors – who come from around the world – start at the top of Cooper’s Hill, a notoriously steep hill. The goal is simple: a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled down the hill, and then the competitors chase after it. The winner is the first person down the hill, who receives the cheese as a prize.

As anyone who has ever tried running downhill knows, gravity is not your friend, and many people fall and end up rolling down the hill – and injuries are commonplace, as IShowSpeed found out.

Leg injury

He took part in the first men’s race, and competed well, but fell and suffered a leg injury. As reported by The Guardian, IShowSpeed said he would require a trip to hospital to get it checked out.

But it seems he enjoyed the experience – asked if he would return, he reportedly said: “Hell, yes.”

The race, which is held yearly, has taken place for decades – with its origins possibly hundreds of years old – and, despite the obvious health and safety risks, continues to be popular with competitors and spectators alike. It is even livestreamed by broadcasters in the UK, and clips have gone viral on social media.
