Modelling career
Before stepping into the world of acting, Schafer carved out a very successful career as a model with a unique style. She walked the runway for top fashion juggernauts such as Prada, Dior, Gucci, and Marc Jacobs, breaking down gender norms in the fashion industry. Her androgynous beauty made her a favorite, and despite eventual calls from Hollywood, she still collaborates with fashion brands.
In 2024, she graced the covers of both Vogue Italia and Vogue Germany’s June issues and showcased many bold red carpet looks in collaboration with stylist Dara Allen.
Schafer’s breakout acting role

Schafer’s acting debut came in 2019 when she was cast as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn in Euphoria. Her character navigates love, identity, and mental health themes that deeply resonated with audiences. It proved to be a breakout role for Schafer. Not only did she star in the show but also co-wrote and co-executive produced a special episode centered on Jules.

Following the success of Euphoria, Schafer has also appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023) as Tigris Snow and in Tilman Singer’s horror movie Cuckoo (2024). She also lent her voice to the animated film Belle (2021).
Passionate activist
Outside of entertainment, Schafer is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She publicly transitioned at the age of 14 and has been outspoken ever since.
As a high school student, Schafer was a plaintiff in the ACLU lawsuit against North Carolina’s House Bill 2, which restricted transgender people from using bathrooms that aligned with their gender identity. Through her activism she brought national attention to the issue and helped fight for transgender rights.
Schafer uses her platforms to share personal experiences and push for better transgender representation in the media. However, she is also keen to distance herself from the transgender activist label. Speaking to Rolling Stone, she commented, “I just happen to be a person who’s part of a marginalized community in the public eye, and people love to call me an activist. It’s like, ‘No. I’m just a tranny who’s famous,’ you know?”.
