Always the nominee, (almost) never the winner – Timothee Chalamet might be a revered actor, but he’s not had a good streak of luck at awards shows.

Chalamet looked like he was in contention to win the Oscar for Best Actor last night, but narrowly missed out to Adrien Brody. This is the second time Chalamet has missed out on an Oscar in this category. The first time was for Call Me By Your Name in 2018, but this was still a huge achievement given he was just 22 at the time.

In fact, Chalamet’s even made fun of it himself. He hosted Saturday Night Live in January and his opening monologue featured a montage of him losing various awards.

“It’s an enormous honor going to these award shows,” he said. “It’s a great experience but I just keep losing. And each time, it gets harder to pretend it doesn’t sting. Let’s take a look. Oh man, just another lonely night with my Dune popcorn bucket.”

As well as his two Oscar nominations, Chalamet has received six Critics Choice nominations. He has also been nominated for four Golden Globes for his work in Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Wonka and A Complete Unknown.

After racking up four SAG Award nominations, he managed to buck the trend last weekend. He won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Motion Picture, breaking his streak of bad luck. The win even made it seem like he could win the Oscar, even if it wasn’t to be this time.

His streak of luck has been compared with that of Leonardo DiCaprio. He had been nominated for five Oscars before finally winning one on the sixth attempt with The Revenant in 2016.

Chalamet appeared in two films nominated for Oscars – A Complete Unknown and Dune Part 2.

While Denis Villeneuve missed out on a Best Director nomination, Dune Part 2 landed five nominations and won in two of its categories.

However, A Complete Unknown wasn’t so fortunate. Despite landing six nominations, it failed to win any Oscars.
