Season four featured the show’s starriest cast yet, with Meryl Streep returning as Short’s love interest Loretta Durkin, joined by Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon.

The new season, which will revolve around solving Lester’s murder, is already proving to be just as star-studded. Renée Zellweger joins fellow new cast members Christoph Waltz and Keegan-Michael Key, while series regulars and show executives Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, as well as Michael Cyril Creighton return to the Arconia.

Last month the show won its first SAG Award for Comedy Series Ensemble, shared by Martin, Short, Gomez, Creighton, Levy, Galifianakis, Longoria, Kind, Nanjiani and Molly Shannon. Short also won for Male Actor in a Comedy Series, though he was unable to attend the award ceremony after contracting COVID following his appearance at SNL50. Martin also missed the event due to a schedule conflict. Gomez, who plays Mabel on the show, accepted the awards on their behalf and later hand-delivered the statues to her co-stars in a surprise ambush.

Zellweger joins the show fresh off doing the rounds promoting the fourth and final installment of the Bridget Jones franchise. The Texas native reprised her popular role as Bridget Jones for a fourth time in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, another hit in the series.

The four-movie franchise has grossed more than $850 million at the worldwide box office.

Beyond Bridget Jones, Zellweger is no stranger to critical acclaim – she has won two Academy Awards, earning Best Supporting Actress for Cold Mountain (2004) and Best Actress for her transformative portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy (2019).

She’s also recently starred in the true crime comedy-drama series The Thing About Pam (2022), based on a real-life murder case. Before that, she led the main cast of Netflix’s thriller miniseries What/If (2019), making her right at home amid the suspicious murder scenes at the Arconia.

It’s not known when season five of Only Murders In The Building will drop, but if the past is any indication ten new episodes could premiere in August.
