The trailer for the upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One movie has dropped – and it reveals what happened to make the world go quiet.
Fans of the original film from 2018 know that it starts with a black screen and ‘Day 89’ in stark white lettering, before viewers are thrown in to the chaotic, but quiet lives of the Abbott family and their struggle to stay alive in what remains of the world.
We also know about the terrifying bloodthirsty aliens that have hearing attuned to the slightest noise and provide much of the horror in the films. But what we haven’t seen in that film or the 2020 sequel is how it all started. Until now.
In A Quiet Place: Day One – which is billed as more of a spin-off to the original films than a prequel – we will see how it all began and the trailer provides a teaser of that. It shows a normal, noisy day that is punctured by objects falling to Earth, and the terror that follows immediately after as the aliens begin their invasion and laying waste to all in their way. Clips follow of the lead character and her desperate bid to stay alive – and the dawning realisation that silence really is golden.
What it also shows is that it is a largely new cast in this film – hence why it is a spin-off. Stars include Lupita Nyong’o – best known for the Black Panther films and Us – Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Alex Wolff (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), although Djimon Hounsou reprises his role from A Quiet Place Part II as the unnamed ‘man on the island’.
But to find out what happens to these characters – and whether they make it through – you’ll have to wait until the film is released, which is slated for June 28.
