BAFTA Rising Star award nominations have landed as part of the lead-up to the biggest night in British film, The BAFTAs.

The annual ceremony will take place at The South Bank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London. With host David Tennant, it will award one of the five names tipped to achieve great cinematic things by BAFTA.

Previous winners have included Lashana Lynch, Jack O’Connor, Emma Mackey and Mia McKenna-Bruce.

Who is nominated?

Five rising stars are in the running to be named one of the most promising talents of the film and TV industry. They all have an impressive list of credits under their belt already.

Marisa Abela

Marisa Abela has made a name for herself as Yasmin in the HBO black comedy Industry and in the Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black.

Jharrel Jerome

Jharell Jermone has already boasted co-stars like Jennifer Lopez and Don Cheadle in the biopic Unstoppable and been in Oscar darlings like Best Picture winner Moonlight.

David Jonsson

Like Abuela, David Jonsson made his name in Industry and has starred in. a string of films like the indie romcom Rye Lane and the horror Alien: Romulus.

Mikey Madison

After parts in the Scream franchise and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Mikey Madison is the name on everyone’s lips with her star turn in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner Anora.

Nabhaan Rizwan

Nabhaan Rizwaan is an indie darling in In Camera and proved himself worthy of going toe-to-toe with Hollywood legends like Jeff Goldblum in KAOS.

What has BAFTA said about the process?

This year, it is extra special because the category marks two decades since it first debuted to mark the biggest up-and-coming names in film.

“It was an honour to select the five nominees for the 2025 EE Rising Star Award, which this year marks its 20th anniversary. These exceptional artists on the rise represent an exciting future for the film industry, captivating audiences around the globe and inspiring the next generation,” the chair of the BAFTA Film Committee, Anna Higgs said. “I am looking forward to seeing who will take home the award on 16th February, and know we’ll get to enjoy so much more from all our incredible Rising Stars in the future.”
