- Andrew Garfield has addressed rumors about a role in Martin Scorsese’s new film
- Scorsese is currently working on a new religious epic
- Garfield has also recently denied rumors he is in Spider-Man 4

Andrew Garfield has again denied that he is playing a role in an upcoming blockbuster movie – this time he has said he won’t be in Martin Scorsese’s The Life of Jesus.
Fresh from denials that he will be reprising his version of Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 film, Garfield has also said he won’t be playing Jesus in Scorsese’s upcoming epic.
Garfield, who turned up in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home – despite denying he was in it – has been rumored to be a part of the upcoming fourth movie in the franchise.
Scorsese epic
Veteran director Scorsese revealed that he was working on The Life of Jesus, based on the 1973 book by Shushako Endo, back in May 2023. Since then, there has been ongoing speculation about who would be taking on the role of Jesus.
Garfield was one of the names in the frame for the role as he has history working with Scorsese. Back in 2017, Garfield appeared in Scorsese’s Silence, where he played a Jesuit priest in the 17th century.
Andrew Garfield quashes Jesus rumor
Speaking to GQ, Garfield said that the rumors about him signing up to play the role were just that. He added that there was no truth in it “to my knowledge.”
Garfield added that, as someone who likes to keep busy, he “can’t just keep waiting for Scorsese to call, ‘cause he makes a movie every three years and a lot of the time Leo DiCaprio is in it.”
The progression of The Life of Jesus has been slow since Scorsese announced he was working on it. Production was originally slated to begin in 2024, but it is still in the development phase. Another project he is working on, a biopic of legendary US singer Frank Sinatra, has also been delayed.
