Witherspoon wrote in a post in early April, “Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production! Couldn’t be more excited to introduce you all to @leximinetree as Elle Woods 💗.”

The post has over 260,000 likes. Fans are excited to see the young Harvard law graduate during her high school years. However, there are some things we want to see. But what are they? Continue reading to find out!

What do we want to see in Elle?

Undoubtedly, cameos from movie characters are the number one thing on our list. Although when Legally Blonde begins, she has her Bachelor’s in Fashion Merchandising, she still meets many characters in her formative years. Therefore, movie character returns are essential for the show and original Legally Blonde fans.

1. The return of Warner

Hate us if you want, but there is no Legally Blonde without Warner, and he must return. As much of a horrible person as he is, Warner was integral to the twenty-something’s character development. His ending of their relationship to find someone ‘better’ is the catalyst Elle needs to reach her full potential. What, like it’s hard?

It is possible that she did meet Warner in high school. In Legally Blonde, it is never specified how or when she and her pompous boyfriend meet. However, a simple flashback in the show could reveal how the couple met.

It would be nice to see him as more than an arrogant law school student. He doesn’t even appear in the second film, so fans never learn what became of him, other than losing the best girl in his life!

2. Elle’s relationship with her parents

Briefly in the first film, Elle’s parents appear. Strangely, they aren’t a big part of the film. We know that June Diane Raphael will play Elle’s mom, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott will play her dad, Wyatt. It is established that her parents are not supportive of her applying to Harvard Law School.

When she tells her mother that she is applying, her mother doesn’t take her seriously. Similarly, her father says, “Law school is for people who are boring, ugly, and serious. And you, Button, are none of those things.”

From that sentence alone, it’s clear that she has a surface-level relationship with her wealthy parents. They do not believe in her ability beyond being pretty, which she eventually overcomes.

Seeing Elle’s relationship in her teenage years with her parents is crucial to explaining her lack of belief in herself and her focus on landing the perfect husband rather than smarts.

3. How she became popular

Yes, the pink princess could have become popular because she’s nice, but that is extremely boring. You can’t rush a top sorority without previous popularity and charisma, but it would be nice to see why she was popular in high school. Was she prom queen? Did she achieve high grades?

Brief mentions hint at Elle’s position in high school. She is a somebody at her sorority, but what about before then? Seeing her rise to popularity would help understand why she did not focus on other aspirations before, because popularity came easily to her.

As a pretty blonde, it isn’t unthinkable that as a teenager, she would be adored by other girls and the boys in high school. However, it would be nice to see her journey from a freshman to a senior and how she developed among her peers.

4. When she got Bruiser

Another character who exudes main character energy is Elle’s chihuahua, Bruiser Woods. He is like her mascot, her biggest cheerleader in both movies, as well as her companion.

Since Bruiser’s age is not confirmed, she could’ve had him in high school. Inevitably, Bruiser has to have a role in the Legally Blonde prequel. How cute would it be to see a teenage Elle seeing him at a pet store, or rescuing him from the street, and making him fido fabulous? We need it!

5. Elle, her friends, and maybe a boyfriend?

The only significant relationships we see her have in the Legally Blonde movies are with Warner and Emmett, whom she later marries.

What if her first love wasn’t either of them, what if it was someone else? They could do a situation like The Carrie Diaries, where a young Carrie Bradshaw is in love with her classmate Sebastian.

In Sex and the City, Carrie’s “first love” is someone different, and her main love interest is Mr Big, whom she meets in her thirties.

Maybe she liked a popular athlete, and he broke her heart? Alternatively, the heartbreak could’ve caused her to change her look to attract the male gaze?

Possibly, that theory could show why she was so insecure as Warner’s girlfriend in early adulthood, even after several years.

Additionally, Elle’s friends are not a big part of her storyline in either Legally Blonde film. It is established that her close friends at Delta Nu are Serena, Margot, and Pilar.

Also, she becomes friends with Paulette when she visits her nail salon, but what about her high school friends? Some possible casting hints suggest that she will have friends who feature prominently in the series, but nothing official yet.

Friends in your formative years have a huge impact on your personality, and seeing this side of her will help viewers understand the mindset of teenage Elle.
