- Jeremy Allen White star has reportedly turned down the opportunity
- Sgt Rock is slated to begin production in the summer
- The Bear star has previously spoken about his distain for superhero movies

The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has reportedly turned down the chance to star in the title role of upcoming DC universe movie Sgt Rock.
White was linked with the role earlier in the month, after Daniel Craig, who was originally earmarked for the role dropped out for reasons as yet unknown. Craig had reportedly signed onto the project late last year.
However, Hollywood insider The InSneider has now claimed that White, 34, has rejected the chance to play the long-established DC comics character.
Refusal no surprise
Sgt Rock is a long-established DC comics character. He first appeared way back in 1959 and is usually depicted as a World War II soldier in command of the Easy Company battling against the Nazis. He has also joined forces with the Suicide Squad in the past.
Luca Guadagnino is directing the movie version of Sgt Rock, with Justin Kuritzkes having penned the script.
But White’s rejection of the opportunity isn’t too much of a surprise. He has previously spoken somewhat disparagingly of the superhero movie genre. Back in 2023 in an interview with GQ magazine, he said: “I am confused at how the pinnacle of an actor’s career has ended up in that place [acting in superhero movies].”
He added he was far more interested in the “$25 million drama that I think most actors want to make.”
This now leaves the question of who will take up the role. The InSneider didn’t have any intel on who DC might now be turning their attention to. This could pose a problem for director Guadagnino, who is reportedly looking to start shooting the movie in the summer. However, if they can’t find a leading man, then the project could be heading for an early delay. There isn’t, as yet, a slated release date for the movie.
Jeremy Allen White upcoming movies
But fans of White can rest easy that they will be seeing plenty of him in movies over the coming months. For instance, he will be playing Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, which is expected to be released later this year.
White also has a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu playing Rotta the Hutt, which is set to hit theaters in 2026.
