- The President of NYU’s College of Republicans was forced to resign
- Kaya Walker called him an “oddity on campus”
- The comments were in a Vanity Fair feature

Barron Trump has found himself the catalyst of a political scandal at his university.
It’s all to do with a Vanity Fair article in which the now-former president of the NYU College Republicans called the youngest son of President Donald Trump, Kaya Wilson, “an oddity”. Barron attends the university in Manhattan and has done so since September.
In her resignation letter, she expressed how the framing had been “willful and malicious”

Wilson said, “I do apologize to everyone that I love and respect that was caught in the crosshairs of this willful and malicious misreading of my comment.”
What did her resignation letter say?
In the letter, Wilson also explained that her reflections were “ridiculously misconstrued to suggest that I found Barron Trump’s commuter status to be unusual when in reality the majority of NYU’s student body-including myself-are commuters.”

She added that her full comments to Vanity Fair displayed her “disappointment in the spectacle that the media and individuals on campus have created through the online circulation of gossip, articles, memes and even photos taken of Barron in class with no respect whatsoever for his privacy.”

Along with this, she noted that her musing he was an “oddity” because of the “unhealthy fascination that people have with a teenager just minding his business by going to college.” Wilson also clarified that she had never met President Trump’s son.
Citing the example of the NYU alum and ex-Disney stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse, she railed against celeb worship gone mad.
She added that she does “not apologise for trying to denounce the campus hysteria”.

Wilson, who claims to have never met Barron, told the magazine that Trump’s youngest son was an “oddity on campus” and took aim at the “unhealthy fascination that people have with a teenager just minding his business by going to college.”
What did the College Republicans of America say about Kaya Wilson’s Barron Trump comments?
The College Republicans put out a press release condemning Wilson’s words. They ruled that her statement “does not align with the values and principles upheld by our organisation.”

They did concede that her words had been “unfairly framed” by the Conde Nast-owned outlet.
Despite this, the group went on to assert their “dedication to the ideals of the Republican Party and conservative movement in a manner that reflects honourably upon our organisation and its mission.”
What did the head of the College Republicans say about the Barron Trump comments?
The head of the College Republicans, Will Donahue, took to social media to say that Trump “represents the future” of the Republican party.
Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans.

Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility–qualities that Barron has already demonstrated.

What was the online reaction?
The account Republicans Against Trump dubbed the decision proof of it being a “cult”.
Last week, Kaya Walker, president of the NYU College Republicans, said this about Barron Trump:

‘He’s sort of like an oddity on campus. He goes to class; he goes home.’

Others echoed this sentiment, highlighting how her words were clearly not meant to be “personal”.
If this is the quote I’m thinking of, the “oddity” comment wasn’t personal, it was about having the President’s child on campus and all the security that it entails. It was justifying why he likely lives off campus in Trump Tower. He’s used to a different lifestyle than most…

Others acknowledged the stuff that Barron will have to deal with, dubbing it a “target on his back”.
He’s has a big target on his back. If other students can’t see the risk taken for him to have normalcy by going to college they aren’t paying attention. Look at the volatility on college campuses these days, trust no one.

Another urged Wilson to “mind her business” on X.
