Paul Mescal earned an Oscar nomination for his role in the 2022 movie, Aftersun.

And now Frankie Corio, who plays his on-screen daughter in the heartbreaking film, has revealed Mescal helped to shield her from the screenplay’s plot.

In a TikTok video, Corio, who was just 10 when she shot the movie, admitted that she had “no idea” how sad the film was supposed to be during the shooting of the movie.

The film is based on the family dynamic that writer and director Charlotte Wells had with her own father, and she made the decision to keep Corio in the dark about more upsetting aspects of her movie.

When working on the film, she only told Corio about the scenes that she was involved in.

“Funny story, I had almost no idea the film was supposed to be sad,” Corio wrote on TikTok when discussing the movie, “Charlotte the director let me read my scenes. None of Paul’s… She wanted it to be very natural and truly unaware.”

Mescal hit headlines earlier this month, after it was announced he would star in a series of biopics about The Beatles

The All Of Us Strangers star will play Paul McCartney in the four movies, which will be released in April 2028.

Making the announcement at CinemaCon, director Sam Mendes also revealed who else would be starring in the much-speculated cast.

Alongside Mescal as McCartney, fellow Irish actor Barry Keoghan will portray drummer Ringo Starr. Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, while Joseph Quinn completes the lineup as George Harrison.

And although the actor may be in a relationship with singer Gracie Abrams, one cheeky fan decided that she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to hand him her phone number.

Sharing a video to her TikTok page, content creator Bridie showed herself meeting Mescal at the stage door of his Broadway play, A Streetcar Named Desire.

As he signed autographs, the social media user passed him a piece of paper – which looked as though it had her phone number written on it.

Set to George Michael’s Father Figure – a song that has come back into the public psyche, thanks to Dickinson’s performance in Babygirl – Bridie captioned the video, “A girl’s gotta shoot her shot.”

And it seemed as though Mescal agreed.

The star laughed and shook his head as he read the note – before folding it up and putting it in his back pocket!
