We fear that the public may have lost its mind, as Steve’s Lava Chicken, the 34-second song from A Minecraft Movie, has broken a chart record.

The immensely popular film stars Jack Black as Steve, a crafter who brings four strangers into the Overworld to experience Minecraft. Based on Markus Persson and Jens Bergensten’s popular sandbox video game, it was obvious the movie would be a hit, and so was Steve’s business jingle.

So far, the film has made $816 million at the worldwide box office, blowing many other films out of the water. Perhaps it is the other viral moments that have propelled A Minecraft movie to such box office heights, like the chicken jockey meme, but apparently, people love Black singing.

Black, 55, is no stranger to singing for children’s movies; he sang the popular song Peaches for The Super Mario Bros Movie in 2023, as well as Kung Fu Fighting from Kung Fu Panda.

Steve’s Lava Chicken broke into the Billboard Hot 100 Chart just recently and became the shortest song ever to do so at 34 seconds. Previously, the record was held by Kid Cudi for his song Beautiful Trip, which was 37 seconds long, according to Stereogum.

Even in the UK, the song has charted and has reached number 21 in the UK Top 40.

How did the internet react to the A Minecraft Movie record?

On one corner of the internet, some fans of A Minecraft Movie were delighted. However, others who were not swept up in the brainrot weren’t.

“Nooo, who let this happen??” One user asked.

Our thoughts exactly.

“This song is gonna get grown men and children singing about chicken now,” another user remarked.

“Easily the worst song Jack Black’s ever sang,” stated one person.

A pretty strong statement.

Meanwhile, other users were all for the Minecraft chart-topping hit.

“School of Rock prepared him for this exact moment,” one user pointed out.

In School of Rock, Black played guitarist Dewey Finn, and boy, could he sing.

In a post, one user commented, “Steve really cooked up a hot hit—who knew lava and chicken could sizzle their way onto the charts in minutes?”.

Defending the chart decision, another fan said, “This song goes hard”.

Whether you like Minecraft or not, you have to admit, the song is catchy.
