- Timothée Chalamet became youngest ever winner for Best Male Actor in Leading Role
- A Complete Unknown delivered earnest acceptance speech about chasing greatness
- Viewers have reacted well to the actor’s honesty

Timothée Chalamet made history at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, last night, and drew enthusiastic praise for his acceptance speech.
The 29-year-old took home the award for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role, for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, becoming the youngest ever recipient of the award in the process.
Taking to the stage to claim his award, Chalamet then delivered an unexpectedly forthright acceptance speech about how he was inspired by greatness in his quest to become one of the greats.
“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. it’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.”

The honesty of the speech perhaps took a few people aback, as it is not often that an actor openly admits such a thing in a public forum. But the sincerity with which Chalamet delivered the words won audiences over, with passionate responses being elicited all over social media in the immediate aftermath of the speech.
I love that Timothée Chalamet isn't sugarcoating how badly he wants to win the Oscar during his SAG speech:

sorry would prefer a "i love acting i want to be one of the greats" chalamet style speech to "i don't give a shit about this nothing about this matters" culkin-esque speech any day of the week! give me earnest give me theatrics baby!!!

If Chalamet, or any young actor, admitting that they aspire to greatness is bothersome to you, you might just….hate art and the craft of acting.

Me? I cried. Give me an exceptional young talent who craves Brando-level greatness, & I’ll believe movies might still have a future. https://t.co/NSjeurPmXg
Not to be that guy but there’s something about all of Brody’s speeches that feel like a guy who wants to win an Oscar giving a “heartfelt speech” while this feels like a genuine honest guy saying he wants to be great and earn the respect of his peers. Chalamet all the way https://t.co/P6imKteWW8

The SAG Award victory was Chalamet’s first major acting award victory. He is also nominated for Best Actor at this year’s Oscars. It is Chalamet’s second nomination for the award, after he received one for his performance in 2018’s Call Me By Your Name.
