The 2025 BAFTAs will mark the biggest night of the year for British film.
It is London’s offering for the Hollywood Awards season. This Los Angeles-based offering includes The Golden Globes, the Grammys and the Oscars. While nominations are yet to be unveiled, some key details have started to make their way online including new categories and details on which star will be hosting the event.
With that in mind, here is all we all know about the 2025 BAFTAs.
When are the 2025 BAFTAs?
Next year’s ceremony will take place on Sunday 16 February 2025.

This date falls two days earlier than the 2024 BAFTAs which were held on Sunday 18 February 2024.
Where will the 2025 BAFTAs be held?
2023 saw the old venue of The Royal Albert Hall be swapped out for the South Bank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. The BAFTAs will stay there for the 2025 awards show.
Who is the host?

Actor David Tennant will return to host the 2025 BAFTAs after fronting the event last year.
Speaking to the Metro about his second hosting stint, Tennant said “I definitely have the advantage of this not being my day job.
“It’s a lovely thing to be asked to do. It’s a huge privilege and it’s very giddy-making.”

He also hoped it would be as enjoyable as last time, saying: “I hope it will just be as fun as it was before.. I mean, I quite enjoyed myself. It was a slightly mad thing to be asked to do and not something I ever aspired to or imagined would come my way.”
In the last 10 years, a slew of famous faces have done the honours, including Graham Norton, Joanna Lumley, and Stephen Fry.
When are the 2025 BAFTA nominations coming out?
The 2025 BAFTA nominations were announced on 15 Janaury 2025.
Out of all this year’s contenders, it was religious thriller Conclave and Selena Gomez’s Emilia Pérez that led the way, with the former earning 12 nods and the latter receiving 11.
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist was third, with nominations for the director and his star, Adrien Brody.

Elsewhere, Timothée Chalamet was also recognised in the Best Actor category for his role in A Complete Unknown, alongside Sebastian Stan for his take on Donald Trump in The Apprentice.
Best Actress nominations included Demi Moore for The Substance, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked and Saoirse Ronan for The Outrun. Meanwhile, Eric’s Wicked co-star Ariana Grande was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Are there any big changes this year?
BAFTA revealed in August that they were adding at least one new category: Best Children’s and Family Film. This category will seek to “celebrate the very best films appealing to inter-generational audiences.” It is the first new category to be introduced in five years. Best Casting was added in 2020.
Who is performing at the 2025 BAFTAs?
BAFTA performances are among the hardest to gauge. Some of the most viral moments have come from them. These include Ariana DeBose’s iconic rap that declared, “Angela Bassett did the thing”.
In 2024, Sophie Ellis-Bextor treated the star-studded audience to her 2002 hit Murder On The Dancefloor after its inclusion in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. In addition, Hannah Waddingham crooned Time After Time during the In Memoriam section. Basically, it’s anyone’s game.
How long are the 2025 BAFTAs?
The ceremony is typically about two hours long. It starts broadcasting at 7 pm and ends at 9 pm GMT.

It will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer for UK audiences and be streamed on BritBox for international audiences.
Who is going to be nominated?
Again, we don’t really know. Rumours have flown about Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths and Steve McQueen’s Blitz.
Other suggested names to be given nods include Marianne-Jean Baptise, Kate Winslet and Cynthia Erivo. This would be for their respective work in Hard Truths, Lee and Wicked.
On the men’s acting talent front, contenders could include Ralph Fiennes for his performance in Conclave, Guy Pearce from The Brutalist, and others.
However, they did recently give the five names in the running for BAFTA EE Rising Star Award. These are Marisa Abela, Jharrel Jerome, David Jonsson, Mikey Madison and Nabhaan Rizwan.
