- CDPR aims to surpass Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 in quality.
- Development shifts to Unreal Engine 5 for smoother production.
- Lessons from Cyberpunk shape a refined approach to the game.

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has set its sights high for The Witcher 4, vowing that the sequel will surpass both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.
Setting a New Standard
Speaking with Eurogamer, in an interview, Charles Tremblay— CD project Red Vice President of technology said,
“And the next game we do will not be smaller, and it will not be worse. So it will be better, bigger, greater than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk – because for us, it’s unacceptable [to launch that way]. We don’t want to go back.”
A few quotes regarding the project have been shared with the community, highlighting that the company is ambitious about keeping high quality and not looking forward to any compromise. Earlier this week their Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski announced that “Project Polaris, has entered full-scale production.“
The Technology Powering Witcher 4
The game marks a new era for CDPR, as it transitions from its proprietary RED engine to the industry-standard Unreal Engine 5. This shift, Tremblay explained, is aimed at enhancing collaboration across teams and ensuring that the development cycle runs without any disruption.
However he acknowledged the challenges that come along and mentioned,
“Even if there will be some ‘sweaty moments’ and maybe even some bad stuff happening, still, I think that we will try everything we can to make it even more than what we achieved in the past years. So the technology should not be a blocker for us, basically.”
CDPR is building a new approach based on lessons from Cyberpunk 2077 to avoid mistakes. Tremblay explained that the studio now focuses on carefully reviewing the projects to make sure that teams are set in every way before taking further steps.
While the release date of Witcher 4 is still a mystery, assurance coming from these statements has built up hope among fans that the new installment will surely be improved and free from all the issues that happened in the past as CDPR is highly determined to deliver the perfect output.
