Spielberg and science fiction go hand in hand. Some of his most significant films have come in the form of sci-fi, including classics Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) and Minority Report (2002). There’s already talk that this latest project harks back to Spielberg’s early career – let’s take a look at everything we know so far.
Who’s in Spielberg’s new UFO film?

Emily Blunt, who recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biopic Oppenheimer and David Leitch’s 2024 action rom-com The Fall Guy, stars as the lead. While very little is known about her role at this time, photos of her filming scenes in White Plains, New York have emerged. Spielberg can also be seen in the images in full director mode.
Wyatt Russell is starring alongside Blunt, the pair have been spotted filming scenes together in New Jersey – a place Spielberg spent a lot of time in during his childhood. Russell’s role remains a mystery, but he could be seen embracing Blunt at a gas station leading to speculation that they’re playing a couple. Russell is best known for portraying John Walker in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a role he is reprising for the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie.

Joining Blunt and Russell in the leads are Oscar nominee Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Emmy winner Josh O’Connor (The Crown), Oscar winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Bad Sisters star Eve Hewson.
What’s it about?

It’s anybody’s guess at this point, but you can probably bank on it featuring UFOs and alien lifeforms. The film itself marks the latest collaboration between Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp. The pair previously worked together on Jurassic Park and its sequels The Lost World, as well as Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull.
Koepp confirmed it’s a sci-fi film on The Discourse podcast, saying “Yes, it is like a sci-fi… Well, I don’t know. I’m not supposed to say. But, yes, it is. It does harken back to maybe a different tone than [what he’s done lately]. Something he used to do that he hasn’t done for a little bit”.
Spielberg’s most recent directorial work has seen him move away from sci-fi. The Fabelmans (2022) was a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama inspired by his childhood and early love for filmmaking. A year earlier, he directed a remake of the classic 1961 musical West Side Story, which earned critical acclaim.
This new film will be a welcomed return to the sc-fi genre. Spielberg himself came up with the story for ‘Non-View’ – which also goes by the working titles of The Dish and Disclosure – but the screenplay is credited to David Koepp.
“It’s great because it’s an original. It was his idea, his story and working on originals is really fun”, Koepp told The Wrap.
When is it being released?
Universal has given Spielberg’s The Dish (or perhaps Disclosure or Non-View) a release date of 12 June 2026, following a slight delay from its original 15 May, 2026 date.
