For many PlayStation 5 users, chatting with friends over Discord while gaming is an established part of the fun, but soon it is going to be even easier to do.

PlayStation says that since it first introduced Discord voice chat on PS5, players have joined a Discord voice chat on more than 290 million occasions while gaming.

However, to do that, users who wanted to join in a Discord call from the PS5 had to transfer the call to their console via the Discord app on a mobile phone, tablet or computer. But thanks to an upcoming update, users will be able to join a call from their PS5 without having to use another device.

Gradual rollout

PlayStation said in a blog the change will be gradually rolled out of the coming weeks. The first to get the upgrade will be in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East and finally the Americas.

But PlayStation also noted that users will need to update their console to the latest system software and PlayStation Network and Discord accounts must be linked for it to work.

Sharing PlaySation Network profile

PlayStation has also announced that from next week users will be able to share their PlayStation Network profile on any messaging or social media app.

To do this, users will have to select ‘share profile’ from the PlayStation App or PS5 console to generate a shareable link or QR code. The recipient will receive a link and, when opened, will have the option to add the users as a friend when they are signed into the PlayStation Network.
