For some, the Super Bowl 2025 trailers were the only reason to pay attention to this annual sporting extravaganza.

Each year, movie studios pay hefty (and we mean hefty) fees to get access to the mammoth audience that tunes in to watch the Super Bowl. This year’s event saw the Philadelphia Eagles win out over their rivals the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, for many, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and a furry blue alien were the main events. That said, while most were painfully short (see: the ‘hefty fee’ stuff from earlier), some were more intriguing than others – but which ones were worthy of all the eyeballs gifted to them by the Super Bowl audience?

Below, you’ll find all of the Super Bowl 2025 movie trailers ranked from best to worst.

Super Bowl 2025 movie trailers

Thunderbolts*

Marvel’s latest team-up was the only Super Bowl 2025 movie trailer to get a full run time and it didn’t waste it.

Despite lacking the colorful energetic pep of their heroic counterparts the Avengers, our first proper glimpse at Thunderbolts* showcased a healthy mix of action and heart as it introduced us to a group of antiheroes forced to work together against a common foe.

Action aside, perhaps its most surprising element was its emotion. However, time will tell whether the MCU’s latest offering fully delivers on this promise or serves up a damp squib instead.

Novocaine

The Boys’ star Jack Quaid can’t feel pain in his latest role. He plays Nate, a regular guy whose unusual inability to feel pain becomes an unlikely superpower when the girl of his dreams is mysteriously kidnapped.

If you’d told us earlier this week that the Super Bowl trailer for a goofy new action comedy would contain action than a teaser for the latest Mission: Impossible flick, we probably wouldn’t have believed you – but here we are.

Judging by this sneak peek, Novocaine looks set to combine action and laughs in equal measure. Sort of like Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody if it was a little more lighthearted. We’re in.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

We know, we know… the Mission: Impossible franchise is undoubtedly more action-packed than the trailer that preceded it in this list. However, our first real look at the (supposed) final instalment of Tom Cruise’s long-running action series was… well, kind of devoid that much action.

New action at least. The 30-second Big Game spot started with Cruise in signature full sprint before showing us tiny snippets of stunts old and new. Undoubtedly, this latest impossible mission looks like it’ll be full of the usual eye-popping, life-risking set-piece moments that have helped it to last so long.

Still, there was something a little subdued that left us wanting more. Maybe Cruise is saving the big guns for the film’s debut?

How to Train Your Dragon

We’ve already seen some footage from the live-action How To Train Your Dragon remake and its dedication to its animated counterpart is impressive. Its re-appearance during Super Bowl Sunday doubled down on these sweeping visuals while showcasing the emotion at the core of its story.

For all those unaware, this stems from the young wannabe warrior Hiccup and his budding relationship with rare Night Fury dragon Toothless. Delicate moments in this Super Bowl spot showcased that relationship and honestly? We’re here for it.

If it sticks to its guns (or swords or whatever), this will likely be one of the better animation-to-live-action retellings in recent years.

F1

Is a major sporting event being used to showcase a major sporting movie? Talk about synergy.

Brad Pitt’s Formula One film F1 got a look in during the Super Bowl and while it was light on story elements (we’re still not too sure what this racing epic will be about) it was heavy on engine roars and shots of sleek vehicles shooting around racetracks.

Meanwhile, it gave us some tense moments between its cast – one that features Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies and Kerry Condon. We’ll have to wait until Joseph Kosinski’s latest is a little closer to its 25 June release before we see any other footage.

Lilo & Stitch

Despite anticipation for Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake remaining high, its Super Bowl 2025 trailer is more than halfway down this list. Why? Well, it didn’t actually show us any footage from the new movie.

Instead, Disney went down a more meta route, displaying its titular furry blue alien causing havoc on the pitch. Elsewhere, the movie has been light on reveals during its marketing campaign so far which means the studio is either very confident in its chances or wants to hedge its bets.

Either way, we’ll find out when the movie debuts in May 2025.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Undoubtedly, Jurassic World Rebirth is one of the most hotly-tipped new releases featured on this list. Not only that, but it’s one of the most anticipated new movies of 2025. However, despite all the hype surrounding it, Jurassic World Rebirth’s Super Bowl trailer was… well, a bit of a letdown.

Why? Well, mainly because it was just a rehash of the first official trailer which debuted just a few days earlier. The only difference was that its shots were slightly shorter and in a slightly different order.

Like many big-budget blockbusters, maybe Universal is saving the goods for closer to the movie’s release date. Still, its Super Bowl tease was about as exciting as a vacant enclosure at a zoo.

Smurfs

Do we really need another Smurfs movie? Apparently so, and this one features Rihanna as Smurfette and John Goodman as Papa Smurf. This time around, the latter has been kidnapped and these little blue creatures will have to Smurf their way to the big smurfin’ apple in order to find their fearless leader.

Big, blue and full of indulgent moments of sing-song, the new Smurfs’ looks about as enticing as any other Smurf movie that’s come before it – which is why it’s Smurfed its way towards the end of this list.

M3GAN 2.0

Aimed squarely at the TikTok demographic that made its first instalment such an unexpected word-of-mouth hit, the Super Bowl teaser for M3GAN 2.0 tried to replicate the same success.

Blumhouse’s weird evil doll may be a killer but she can also dance and… we get it. What else can she do? Hopefully, something interesting, otherwise audiences might find themselves swiping past M3GAN 2.0 without giving it much thought.
