Reese Witherspoon has shared an exciting first look at the Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle. Amazon MGM Studios first announced the show in May 2024. Witherspoon confirmed her involvement in a statement: “We will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do.”
Set in high school, the prequel will follow a younger version of Elle Woods and other Legally Blonde characters. Lexi Minetree is playing our main girl, and more cast members have been announced. Also announced in the cast so far are:
- June Diane Raphael as Eva Woods
- Tom Everett Scott as Wyatt Woods
- Chandler Kinney as Kimberly
- Jacob Moskovitz as Miles
- Gabrielle Policano as Liz
Before Minetree, Witherspoon played the Harvard law school student in two Legally Blonde movies in 2001 and 2003. Supposedly, a third movie is in the works, but there isn’t much information on it.

What was in the Elle sneak peek?
On Instagram, Witherspoon shared a clip of Minetree as the iconic character. The photo shows Minetree in a pink tracksuit talking on a house phone. Very nineties.
The 49-year-old shared the photo in a post with the caption, “Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production! Couldn’t be more excited to introduce you all to @leximinetree as Elle Woods 💗.”
Minetree reshared the post on her Instagram Stories and thanked her old theatre workshop company for being her “starting place”.
What else has Lexi Minetree been in?
Yes, the young actress has not had many huge roles before the prequel, which makes her casting so refreshing. However, Minetree has some notable stage credits, including Brooke in Noises Off, Tood in The Cover Of Life, and Law and Order: SVU.
When will the show be released?
Since the show has just started production, there is no release date. From the cast announcement to production, the turnaround time was less than two months. In February 2025, Witherspoon announced in a video that Minetree would play her iconic character.
She posted a video sharing this news with the young actress.
